It's one of the first things people ask when they're considering Botox. “How long does Botox last?” and honestly, it's the right question to ask. How long do Botox injections last? Will it still look good at my friend's wedding in three months? When do I need to come back?
The short answer is three to four months, but there's more to it than that. How long your results last depends on a handful of things that are specific to you, your muscles, your lifestyle, and how your body processes the product. And knowing what to expect ahead of time makes the whole experience a lot less guesswork.
Here's what we tell our clients at Eyre Esthetics in Pasadena before their first appointment.
Botox doesn't work the moment you walk out the door. Most people start noticing changes around three to five days after their injections. The full effect usually settles in somewhere between day 10 and day 14 that's when the muscles have fully responded and the results look their most refined version.
What's happening under the surface is pretty straightforward. Botox works by temporarily interrupting the nerve signals that tell certain facial muscles to contract. When those muscles relax, the lines they create between your brows, across your forehead, around your eyes soften out. It's not adding anything to your face, it's just giving those muscles a break.
For most people, the answer for how long does Botox last is that the results last three to four months. That's the window where the treatment is doing its full job. After that, the muscles gradually start to regain movement, and the lines begin to come back. That said, it's not the same for everyone, a few things can push that timeline shorter or longer:
The treatment area: Smaller, more active areas like the corners of the eyes tend to fade a little sooner than larger areas like the forehead.

You can't freeze time, but you can do a few things to protect your results and get more out of every treatment:
Sun damage is one of the quieter factors that chips away at how long does botox lasts. A good broad-spectrum sunscreen is one of the best things you can do for your skin in general and it directly supports your results.
Hydrated, healthy skin holds up better. If you're not sure what products to use, we can point you in the right direction.
The biggest mistake people make is waiting until the Botox has fully worn off before booking their next appointment. Coming back around the 12-to-16-week mark before full muscle movement returns helps maintain the results more consistently over time. Regular clients often find their results last longer because the muscles stay in a more relaxed pattern.
In the first 24 to 48 hours post-treatment, skip the sauna, hot yoga, and strenuous workouts. These can cause the product to migrate before it fully settles.
Dosing and placement matter enormously. An experienced injector who takes time to understand your facial anatomy will give you more natural, longer-lasting results than a rushed or under-dosed treatment.

Watch for the moment when you start noticing more movement coming back in the areas that were treated. For most people that happens somewhere between 12 and 16 weeks. That's your cue.
If you're new to Botox, don't worry we'll help you figure out the right schedule based on how your face responds. Some people come every three months like clockwork. Others find they can stretch to four or even five months after a few rounds. It's something we figure out together over time.
At Eyre Esthetics we offer both Botox and Dysport; they work similarly but have slightly different formulations. Some clients find one works better for them than the other, or that one lasts a touch longer in certain areas. If you're curious about the difference, we're happy to walk you through it at your consultation.

First-timers often see results last on the shorter end of the range closer to two and a half to three months. That's completely normal. After a second or third treatment, most people find their results hold longer as the muscles learn to stay relaxed.
For some people, yes especially after multiple consistent treatments. It's not the norm, but it happens. Factors like lower muscle activity in the treated area, good skin health, and staying on a regular schedule all contribute.
No, it's gradual. You'll notice movement slowly returning over a few weeks rather than waking up one day and it being completely gone. That gradual fade is actually one of the reasons it looks so natural.
If you wait until the Botox has fully worn off, the muscles have had time to return to full activity. You'll essentially be starting from scratch each time, which can make it harder to maintain consistent results. Staying on schedule is worth it.
Yes, when administered by a qualified provider, Botox is considered safe for long-term use. Many clients have been getting it consistently for years with no issues.
